What is Flex Score?

Flex Score is Jobgether's 0–100 flexibility rating for each job and company.

It tells you, at a glance, how a role works on three dimensions:

Where

you can work

When

you can work

How

your work is structured

Instead of vague labels like "flexible" or "remote-friendly," Flex Score gives you a transparent, comparable indicator of how much freedom a job really offers.

Why we created Flex Score

Most job postings use the same words: flexible, hybrid, remote, work-life balance. In reality, there are big differences between:

  • A "remote" role that still expects you in the office twice a week
  • A fully remote, async role that lets you design your own schedule

We created Flex Score to:

  • Make flexibility measurable, not just a slogan
  • Help candidates quickly see which jobs truly fit their life
  • Help companies communicate flexibility in a clear, structured way

Flexibility is not one thing. Flex Score turns it into something you can understand and compare.

How we calculate Flex Score

Flex Score is a 0–100 rating based on three pillars. In total, we look at around 30 criteria grouped into these areas.

WHERE — Location and presence

This pillar measures how tied the job is to a specific place.

We look at:

  • Remote, hybrid, or on-site
  • Required office days per week or month
  • Location restrictions (country, region, time zone)
  • Work-from-anywhere possibilities

Examples:

Fully remote and work-from-anywhere → higher Flex Score

Hybrid with 3 days per week in office → lower Flex Score

Remote but limited to specific countries → medium Flex Score

WHEN — Schedule and time autonomy

This pillar focuses on how your time is structured.

We analyse:

  • Fixed hours vs flexible hours
  • Core hours vs full autonomy
  • Async vs meeting-heavy culture
  • Options like 4-day weeks

Examples:

Fully flexible hours with async → higher Flex Score

Standard 9–5 with many meetings → lower Flex Score

Partial flexibility with core hours → medium Flex Score

HOW — Contract, stability and conditions

This pillar evaluates how the job is set up from an employment perspective.

We consider:

  • Contract type (permanent, fixed-term, contractor, freelance)
  • Stability and predictability of income and hours
  • Remote support (equipment, stipend, coworking)
  • Employment model for global hiring (direct hire, EOR, contractor)

Examples:

Stable full-time contract with remote support → high

Short-term contract with limited support → low

How to read the score

Flex Score is not a judgment of job quality. It only measures flexibility.

Flex Score FAQ

What does Flex Score measure?

Flex Score measures flexibility across three pillars: where you work (location), when you work (schedule), and how you work (contract and structure). It turns flexibility into a clear 0–100 metric.

Do companies pay to get a higher Flex Score?

No. Flex Score is calculated objectively based on job data. Companies cannot pay to change their score.

Is a high Flex Score always better?

Not necessarily. It depends on your lifestyle. Some people love office work; others want full autonomy. Flex Score helps you evaluate what you need.

Does Flex Score replace Match Score?

No. Match Score measures fit between your skills and the job. Flex Score measures the job's flexibility. They complement each other.

How often is Flex Score updated?

Whenever a job's conditions change — for example, new time-zone rules, office requirements, or contract changes — the score updates.

What if Flex Score seems inaccurate for a job?

You can report it directly from the job page. Our team reviews every report and updates the score if needed.

Why do two "remote" jobs have different Flex Scores?

Because "remote" can mean many things. One job may require daily meetings and time-zone overlap; another might be async and global. Flex Score captures these differences.
