The job in a nutshell

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a crucial role in shaping the way we harness and leverage data.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about data engineering, enjoys working in a remote-first environment, and is eager to contribute to the early stages of a company's data-driven journey.

Last year, we built a data stack and enabled our teams to explore our product and financial data for self-serve analytics purposes. Now the time is right to expand our data capability to cover more use cases. For example, we aim to implement more comprehensive and consistent event tracking to support developments in our existing and new parts of our product. You will not only spearhead the development of robust data pipelines but also collaborate closely with our data scientists and analytics to distill complex data into meaningful decision-making.

Furthermore, you'll work hand-in-hand with our engineering and product teams to seamlessly integrate data-driven features and enhancements, ensuring that our products remain at the forefront of innovation.

We’re also hiring a Head of Data, who will lead a centralized Data team in the company. You’ll be within this new team.

TestGorilla has a big opportunity to harness its vast data to help candidates land their dream jobs and our customers identify the best talent. By contributing to unlocking this data, you will support our team members, users, mission, and growth.

You’ll spend time on the following:
  • Developing robust data models to support both internal analytics and external-facing features, ensuring data accuracy, consistency, and efficiency.
  • Designing and implementing scalable Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes to move and transform data from various sources into our data warehouse.
  • Managing and optimizing databases, ensuring high performance and data integrity. Implement best practices for data storage, retrieval, and security.
  • Working closely with data scientists, software engineers, and product managers, to understand data requirements and deliver effective solutions.
  • Implementing and maintaining data quality checks and validation processes to ensure the accuracy and reliability of data.
  • Identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks in data processing and storage to enhance overall system efficiency.
  • Creating and maintaining comprehensive documentation for data models, ETL processes, and database configurations.

Here's what we are looking for:
  • You are inspired by our mission to place 1 billion people in dream jobs.
  • You are fully aligned with our values
  • Proven experience as a Data Engineer, preferably in a remote or distributed team setting.
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience working with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL).
  • Strong programming skills in languages like Python or Java.
  • Experience with data modeling tools and techniques.
  • Knowledge of ETL processes and tools.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based data storage and processing platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure).
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote-first environment.
  • Passion for staying updated on industry trends and emerging technologies in data engineering.
  • Ability to set priorities and manage time effectively, balancing the urgent and important

We typically expect candidates with at least 4 years of experience in Data Engineer role or similar position to have the skills mentioned above.

Bonus points if…
  • Be familiar with modern data warehouses such Snowflake or RedShift
  • Knowledge of AWS Data services such as S3, Kinesis, and EMR

About TestGorilla

At TestGorilla, we envision a world where everyone has their dream job. To achieve that, employers and employees need to have the right information about each other.

We started in 2020 by building a screening platform that enables employers to evaluate candidates in the skills that matter most for success in a role. Our product replaces subjective, incomplete, and often inflated CVs with objective, reliable, and fair test results measuring aptitude, practical job skills, culture add, and motivation.

Improving and expanding this platform is our core focus at the moment, but it’s only the beginning of our journey to get everyone their dream job. Over time, we will launch more products that support this mission.

Last year, we secured $70m in Series A funding, co-led by the venture capital firms Atomico and Balderton Capital. The funding brings the company’s total investment to $80m following previous investments from Notion, Partech, and CapitalT. Chances are you’re familiar with some of our biggest customers, like the UK’s National Health Service, 3M, Sony, Oracle, PepsiCo, Bain & Company, and Deloitte.

We work remotely, spread across the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Interested?

We don’t offer rainbow glitter unicorns or dog-friendly offices (we literally don’t have an office), but we do offer real people, solid core values, and a product meant to give everyone a fair, unbiased chance at their dream jobs.

Here at TestGorilla, we do what we say. We use our assessment platform to make sure we make the best hiring decisions faster and bias-free.

So if this role sounds like a good fit for you, I’d like you to take an assessment so we can get a better idea about whether you would fit the role. It’s also a great opportunity for you to get to know our product!

We encourage diverse applicants from a myriad of educational, work, and personal backgrounds to apply. We are a parent-friendly/caregiver-friendly employer who recognizes the importance of having a great life outside of work.

If you’re hired, I’ll do everything I can to help you succeed at TestGorilla and throughout the rest of your career.
